Just one of the things that I love about the artisan jewelry in Peru is the fact that none of these pieces will sit in my jewelry box for too long. The pieces that I bring back share common traits: the quality of their craftsmanship, the beauty of their native materials for example. Yet, each is a distinctive design from the imagination of the artisan who created it. Sometimes I choose a piece because it’s the perfect accessory for the particular outfit I’ve chosen for the day; that’s true when I wear classic black with one of the contemporary handcrafted necklaces that feature obsidian from the mountains of Peru. Other times, it’s the symbolic significance of the featured material that draws me to it; the good luck characteristic of the red huayruro seed or the calming influence of the Peruvian opal in a silver and opal bracelet
