Although you have to climb a fairly steep hill to reach San Blas, it is worth every step! It is such a unique looking place, with its lovely colonial houses and the numerous side streets running between them. We were so lucky on a trip several years ago to meet a delightful young woman who is an up and coming artist; she had her own studio in the main plaza and agreed to take our daughters and some friends to a local Incan ruins site and give them an afternoon of art lessons. The children had a wonderful afternoon listening to music and painting to their emotions in a picturesque location. I’ve stayed in touch with Martha Morales Polar and purchased several of her pieces over the years. She is living in France for a while with her husband and having gallery showings of her work. The opportunities to interact with both old and new cultures and to <a href="http://www.learnaboutperu.com>Learn About Peru are endless. It is always fascinating to stop at the workshops and observe the many artists creating their work. The artistic traditions of San Blas, which include mask making, doll making, stone carving, ceramics, and sculpture, have been practiced for generations by artisan families.
